REPORTING Scotland have issued an apology live on air after claiming the SNP had passed complaints regarding Alex Salmond to Police Scotland.

Jackie Bird spoke on Tuesday's edition of the news programme to correct the mistake, and clarify that it was the Scottish Government, and not the SNP, who had submitted the allegations against Salmond.

The video, uploaded to Youtube by "Indyref Two", reveals the moment Bird made the on-air correction.

She states: "On last night's Reporting Scotland we carried the story that Edinburgh Airport is helping police with their inquiries into sexual misconduct claims against Alex Salmond.

"We also said that a Police Scotland investigation into the former First Minister was launched after the Scottish National Party passed two complaints of sexual harrassment to the authorities.

"This part of the story was incorrect.

"The complaints were made to the Scottish Government, not the SNP. We apologise for this error."

The gaffe follows another error on BBC Newsnight which claimed that Angus Robertson was still leader of the SNP Westminster group.
