HISTORIC pictures of the Fab Four during their rise to fame are being showcased in one of Scotland’s top museums in the city where the word Beatlemania was coined.

The McManus Art Gallery in Dundee has acquired 33 photographs taken by Monifieth-born photographer Winnie Forbes-Cochrane during The Beatles performance at the city’s Caird Hall on October 20, 1964.

The photographs, which include several of the band’s fans, were bought at auction for £6600 by Leisure and Culture Dundee.

Sinclair Aitken, chair of Leisure and Culture Dundee said: “We have such a rich and diverse musical heritage in Dundee. Caird Hall and the concerts there are a huge part of that, so it’s really pleasing to see these pictures of The Beatles come home. These pictures are a fantastic acquisition for The McManus and will now be preserved in our collections for future generations to enjoy.”
