THE SNP has again called for Universal Credit’s roll out in Scotland to be halted.

Paisley MSP George Adam wrote to the Conservative’s welfare spokesperson Michelle Ballantyne urging the introduction of the system to be stopped.

Adam said: “The Tories can’t keep hiding from the fact that their own party is responsible for Universal Credit – which has been an absolute shambles from day one.”

His comments follow a week of warnings over the new system’s roll out. The Trussell Trust had warned food bank usage has risen by 15% in the past year due to delays to the service’s first payments.
