JUST when you think the Yes DIY surge is slowing down, up comes a week full of events which show the movement is in rude good health.
Yes Edinburgh West are meeting on Monday, November 5, at the Clermiston Inn where they will be screening all three of Lesley Riddoch’s films about the Nordic countries – the Faroes, Iceland and Norway.
Entry is free but please register your interest on the group’s Facebook page.
The very active Dumfries and Galloway Pensioners for Independence group are meeting in the Locharbriggs Community Centre in Dumfries on Tuesday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm.
Later that evening attention switches to Dalmuir where Yes Clydebank are holding a meeting in the local community centre in Duntocher Road at 7.15pm.
Their aim is to discuss the possibility of setting up an over-60s group for the Clydebank area. Yes Clydebank say they particularly want to invite people who voted No in 2014 but are considering changing to Yes at the second referendum.
One of the most tireless campaigners for independence over the decades is Mike Russell MSP, the Scottish Government minister with the impossible task of making sense of the Tory Government’s dog’s breakfast of a Brexit deal.
Yes Glasgow North West are hosting a public meeting, titled Brexit and Scotland, with Russell giving the keynote speech. It's in the club deck at Scotstoun Stadium at 112 Danes Drive from 7pm. Entry is free.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
