Dumfries and Galloway English Scots for Yes have been told by the people of Dumfries that Brexit is bad for Scotland. They have just held a very successful joint stall in Dumfries along with D&G Pensioners for Independence, with many, many locals expressing their views that Brexit will be extremely damaging for Scotland and that all decisions affecting Scotlands economy should be made in Scotland.
English Scots for Yes Regional Organiser John Schofield said “Of those who visited the stall, the message that came back resoundingly loud and clear was that Brexit will not be good for Scotland, decisions about Scotland should be made in Scotland and an independent Scotland inside the E.U. is safer option than staying with the U.K.
“This shows the message that a no-deal Brexit will be catastrophic for Scottish businesses is well understood in Dumfries. A no-deal would mean a massive amount of customs checks and red tape at borders and long delays at Channel ports. It could also mean WTO tariffs of up to 100 per cent for Scottish beef exports.
“This would be a disaster. In addition, vital industries like whisky may lose their protected name status.”
English Scots for YES member Roger Martin commented “We support the Scottish Governments call for Scotland, and indeed the UK, to remain in the Single Market, as a minimum. Prominent Leave members promised this during the EU referendum and believed a Norway style deal was an excellent choice for the UK.”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
