AN MSP who criticised Ryanair’s handling of a racist attack has called the police in after being targeted by sick trolls.

Last weekend, footage of David Mesher calling Delsie Gayle an “ugly f****** c***” and an “ugly black b******” on a flight from Barcelona went viral.

Tens of thousands shared the shocking video, and many criticised the airline for seemingly doing little to help Gayle.

The disabled pensioner, unable to move without assistance, was repeatedly shouted at by Mesher.

Rather than deal with the racist, Ryanair moved Gayle out of his way.

Shocked Greenock and Inverclyde MSP Stuart McMillan shared the video, tweeting: “This really is appalling @Ryanair.

“You will know the identity of the man and the level of training given to your staff!”

Hours later, he received an email from an anonymous account with the name NPC6000000, with the subject line “Hey N***** lover”.

It said: “Elderly people have a right to free speech, and should be able to say whatever they like. N***** lovers like you should be put in camps and gassed.”

McMillan said the attack from the “saddo keyboard weirdo” wouldn’t put him off standing up against racism. He told The National he had reported the email to police: “I absolutely deplore racism and threatening behaviour in all its forms. It’s a sad situation that in calling out a hateful incident that happened on a recent Ryanair flight, I also became subject to such vile abuse.

“While politicians can expect robust criticism in a democracy, there’s no place for this sort of vitriol.

“I certainly won’t be deterred from speaking up on the important issues by some saddo keyboard warrior who needs to get a life.”

Meanwhile, Mesher, who lives in a sheltered retirement housing block in Birmingham, declined to comment about the incident to reporters outside his home.

At the beginning of the video, the woman’s daughter tells Mesher that her mother is disabled.

He replies: “I don’t care whether she’s f****** disabled or not – if I tell her to get out she gets out.”

Essex Police said the force was contacted by the carrier on October 21 “about a racially aggravated incident happening on a Ryanair plane while on the tarmac at Barcelona Airport”.

“Since the report was made to us our officers have identified both parties involved and are progressing a number of inquiries,” the force added.

“There are agreed national protocols to follow when incidents are reported to have happened in another country. As such, we will be conducting an investigation to submit to the Spanish authorities in due course.”

Gayle says she has not yet been contacted by Ryanair.
