The National:

SOME may think that this column is over the top when it comes to its criticism of the Tories, but they continually give us so much ammo.

With Halloween fast approaching, their latest horror show involves MSP for South Scotland Michelle Ballantyne, who was asked by the SNP's Aileen Campbell about her party's record on welfare, specifically the two-child tax credit and the rape clause.

Ballantyne said that the two-child limit is about fairness and "it is fair that people on benefits should not be able to have as many children as they like, while people who work and pay their way and don't claim benefits have to make decisions about the number of children they can have".

It was later revealed that the Tory welfare spokeswoman has six children of her own and claimed tax credits for each of them.

Back in the chamber, the comments were clearly too much for some, even members of Ballantyne's own party.

Mid-answer her colleague Jeremy Balfour, MSP for the Lothian region, can be seen squirming in his seat behind her.

When Ballantyne is finished the look on Campbell's face is priceless. Watch the clip below.
