A SCOTTISH company has unlocked a role as a props supplier for cult Channel 4 TV game show The Crystal Maze.

Vintage iron keys, padlock and a 100-year-old antique teak storage chest bought from vintage specialist Scaramanga, based in Cupar, Fife, appeared in the celebrity special last Friday that kicked off a new series.

The show also bought another Scaramanga antique teak storage chest and seven more padlocks, which it is though will be used in later episodes of the new series.

Similar vintage and antique padlocks supplied by Scaramanga were used in Paddington 2, The Hobbit, Pan and Celebrity Big Brother 2016 and its wooden chests were used in the Legend of Tarzan. The company, which also sells its bags, vintage furniture and homewares online and in its Cupar store, has also supplied vintage and antique props for TV shows such as Strictly Come Dancing, Celebrity Big Brother, Peaky Blinders and Hollyoaks, as well as seven major movies including The Hobbit, Maleficent and Victoria & Abdul.

Owner Carl Morenikeji said: “I didn’t have a clue how our products would be used as that’s a closely-guarded secret. When I founded Scaramanga 12 years ago I never imagined that we’d become the first-choice supplier for so many leading TV and movie props buyers.”
