GREEN Party co-leader Caroline Lucas has taken the UK Government to task over its arm sales to Israel.

Speaking during an Urgent Question in the House of Commons, the MP for Brighton Pavilion, questioned why the Government continued to facilitate arms sales to Israel given "the slaughter in Gaza" yesterday.

Fifty-eight people were killed and more than 1200 injured when protests erupted near the border with Israel. The demonstrations were a reaction to the official opening of the US embassy in Jeruselam.

The move was a promise made during Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and enraged Palestinians, who see the city as a future capital.

"Assault rifles. Sniper rifles. Components for aircraft. Ammunition. That is just a small selection of the export licences granted by this government to British firms to sell to Israel last year," she began.

She went on to question how the Government could continue to allow the arms trade to "profit from mass murder by the criminal Israeli government".
