WORK has begun to build two new public tennis courts in an East Renfrewshire Park.

The council is spending £80,000 to create the courts at Rouken Glen Park. It is expected they will be completed by the summer.

Council leader Tony Buchanan said: “I’m delighted to see work now under way to build these additional facilities in Rouken Glen. Who knows, it might just help us unearth the next Andy Murray.”

Councillor Alan Lafferty, convener for environment, added: “Rouken Glen is already the jewel in East Renfrewshire’s crown and people flock from far and wide to enjoy it.

“The tennis courts will be a fabulous addition and builds on the recent £3 million investment to create a new playpark, refurbish the visitor centre and redevelop the walled garden.”
