The National:

FOREIGN Secretary Boris Johnson "apologised unreservedly" after he was slapped down for a sexist remark to shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry.

Johnson apologised for "any inadvertent sexism or discourtesy that you may have deemed me to have been guilty of".

"And I heartily tender my apologies to (Emily Thornberry) if she was offended by what I said and I meant no harm, and I apologise unreservedly to her if I have offended the feelings of (Thornberry)."

In other words, it was classic non-apology. Sorry IF I offended. Sorry IF you felt like that.

Foreign Office minister Harriett Baldwin later defended Johnson saying he did not have one "sexist bone in his body". I don't think that even needs a response...
