THE comedy club that launched the careers of Kevin Bridges and Frankie Boyle is today celebrating its 20th anniversary.

The Stand, co-founded by Tommy Sheppard MP, began operations in Edinburgh in 1998 and is now a major force in UK comedy.

Director Kenny O’Brien told The National: “It was a hare-brained scheme – to have survived 20 years is remarkable.”
