British actor Millie Bobby Brown, 14, who is considered the break-out star of the show for her role as Eleven, is reportedly earning more than her male co-stars after she separated herself from the rest of the cast during the renegotiations. Sources suggested to the publication she is earning around $300,000 (£214,000).

Renegotiation of contracts is common practice in Hollywood when shows are a hit. Other casts to enter high-profile renegotiations include Friends, who each famously landed $1 million an episode, Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory. The top five cast members of the E4 comedy about a group of scientists, Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar emulated the success of the Friends cast.

The cast of Big Little Lies, starring Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, also recently renegotiated their contracts ahead of a second series.
