SCOTTISH Conservative MP Ross Thomson had an interesting take on Theresa May's Brexit speech today ... and it didn't go down well.
The MP for Aberdeen South sent out a tweet praising the UK Prime Minister, with plenty of pro-Union sentiment to go with it.
Thomson tweeted: "As we leave the EU we do so as one United Kingdom. No part of it will be left behind. @theresa_may is our PM for the whole of our UK and she will not allow Brexit negotiations or anything to damage the integrity of our precious Union of nations #RoadToBrexit"
As we leave the EU we do so as one United Kingdom. No part of it will be left behind. @theresa_may is our PM for the whole of our UK and she will not allow Brexit negotiations or anything to damage the integrity of our precious Union of nations 🇬🇧 #RoadToBrexit

Users on Twitter were quick to point out the heavy toll Brexit will take on Scotland, and that his own constituency voted to remain.
Here's a sample of the response to the Tory MP's message...
This is quite probably one of the most sycophantic, nausea inducing comments I have read in a while! Scotland and other parts of your so-called "precious Union of nations" voted overwhelmingly #Remain and you have the temerity to drag us out of #EU? Jog on!

Oh you are a roaster arent you? It will cost Scotland a 10% drop in GDP and 80000 jobs!

77% of your constituents voted to stay. Its time you started respecting what your constituents want!!!
Remind us what the EU vote was in your constituency.

ALL parts of the UK will be treated equally? I have your word on that? #Precious? pic.twitter.com/6QDGxGjqoo

We're being torn from the EU by our neighbour, that's what's happening. You have a funny way of framing the EU referendum result in Scotland. Leave us behind by all means, we'd be better off in the EU than under any Little England regime.

Can you tell me how our precious union of nations is handling Northern Ireland, Gibralter, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, Falklands in the fallout? Are we all as one behind your #BrexitShambles and #ToryChaos ?

This tweet makes me want to vomit!

This Union has no integrity, no equality, no hope. It is rotten to the core and it is finished.

Ross, as long as everyone in a parts of the UK are equally harmed by your Brexit and it protects your 'precious Union' that's all right by you, is it not?

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
