The UK's Insolvency Service has been forced to apologise to staff at Carillion facing an uncertain future after posting an online update that just said "Blaah".

The Government agency admitted the post had been made to their website in error, but the GMB union said the gaffe "added insult to injury" to thousands of workers who are waiting to hear whether they have lost their jobs.

The construction giant went bust last month, and more than 1000 staff have already been made redundant.

The National:

Rehana Azam, GMB National Secretary, told the Huffington Post: “The Government might be blasé about giving proper updates to Carillion workers but jobs still remain on the line.

“Many families are facing an anxious and nerve wracking time waiting for news on their futures - and this insensitivity adds insult to injury."

A spokesman for the Insolvency Service said: “A draft page with dummy text as a placeholder was inadvertently published and has now been corrected. We apologise for this error.”

Carillion’s liquidation left a £900m debt pile, a £590m pension deficit and hundreds of millions of pounds in unfinished public contracts.

Westminster’s business and pensions committees are conducting a joint enquiry into what went wrong and why its trouble was not spotted earlier.
