STRICTLY Come Dancing winner Joe McFadden has said it would be a shame if he did not continue dancing after his success on the TV show.

The Holby City actor was crowned champion on Saturday night along with his professional partner Katya Jones – who previously paired up with Ed Balls.

At 42, the Scot became the oldest winner in the show’s history.

McFadden won the public vote in the BBC final after 13 weeks of competition, fighting off competition from fellow finalists Alexandra Burke, Debbie McGee and Gemma Atkinson.

His three performances on Saturday night – a Charleston, a showdance and a Viennese waltz – scored a combined 118 out of a possible 120 points.

McFadden’s Holby City character was recently written out of the show so that the actor can pursue a career in theatre, and he said it would be a sad day if this was the end of his dancing exploits.

“I’m feeling really good and looking forward to having a good rest over Christmas,” he said. “I’m going to lie in a dark room for about a week and sleep.”

When asked about the possibility of a West End role, he added: “I have no idea. It would be lovely to put all the dancing into practice; it would be a shame to let all of that [go].”
