A RED-CARPET event in Glasgow has raised nearly £150,000 for music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins Scotland.

Winners at the 19th annual SSE Scottish Music Awards included Emeli Sande, who picked up the songwriting award; The Temperance Movement, named as best rock band; and Lewis Capaldi, who took the best newcomer prize.

Waterboys keyboard player Brother Paul made the journey over from Nashville to collect the band’s prize for outstanding contribution to music, and the Rolling Stones sent a video message as Ian Stewart, who co-founded the band in 1962 and was a touring member until his death in 1985, was inducted into the Scottish Music Hall of Fame.

His widow Cynthia said: “He would have been tickled pink to receive an accolade from a charity like this. Thank you so much.”
