SCOTLAND have drawn 2-2 against Slovenia in World Cup qualifying Group F and miss out on a play-off place.

Scotland made a positive start but Kieran Tierney was booked early on for hacking down Benjamin Verbic after being beaten out wide. Craig Gordon made the first two saves of the game, the second a more difficult one as he pushed a Tim Matavz shot over the bar.

Scotland survived a brief period of pressure and Andy Robertson continued where he left off following his impressive display in Thursday's 1-0 win over Slovakia.

The left-back's cross caused panic in the home defence and almost crept in the back post, before he threaded a clever pass for Martin, whose shot was held by Jan Oblak down at his near post.

Scotland continued to grow into the game and they took the lead in the 32nd minute as Griffiths netted his fourth goal in five internationals.

James McArthur headed the ball back into the Slovenia box after Darren Fletcher's cross was half-cleared and Griffiths thumped his shot inside the far post from a tight angle.

Griffiths caused a scare when he landed awkwardly on the halfway line but he continued after treatment and Scotland saw out the half without major concern.

Gordon tipped over Rajko Rotman's long-range strike early in the second half but he was beaten in the 52nd minute.

The hosts were awarded a soft free-kick on the right following Darren Fletcher's challenge on Josip Ilicic and Roman Bezjak had space to head the midfielder's inswinging delivery into the bottom corner from six yards.

Ikechi Anya had been waiting on the touchline to come on and Strachan carried through with the tactical switch as Martin came off. Anya lined up in a wide-left position with Bannan tucking in.

Bezjak soon had another chance after Scotland failed to clear but Gordon got a hand to his deflected effort before saving from Ilicic moments later.

Scotland were being forced deeper but Bannan sent Anya away on a break and the substitute got a shot away, Oblak holding the rising strike.

The home side appealed strongly for a penalty when Bezjak got in front of Tierney and threw himself over but Swedish referee Jonas Eriksson was unimpressed.

McArthur was booked for a late tackle on Jasmin Kurtic, ruling him out of a potential play-off first leg.

With Slovakia now two ahead against Malta, Scotland were heading out on goal difference but they were struggling to get forward in numbers.

The home side went ahead in the 72nd minute through the same combination that got the equaliser, with Bezjak rolling the ball into the net from 12 yards.

Scotland needed a goal quickly and Fletcher had a glorious chance to level after Tierney's cross eventually bounced in front of him 10 yards out, but the Stoke midfielder sliced his volley just over.

Robert Snodgrass and Steven Fletcher came on for McArthur and Tierney as Scotland went for broke with 10 minutes left and they got themselves back in it with almost three minutes left of normal time.

Darren Fletcher lofted a pass beyond the home defence and Snodgrass beat Oblak to it before hooking home.

The scene was set for a dramatic finale and the Scots found themselves breaking dangerously seconds later but Oblak scrambled the ball away as Phillips' deflected pass threatened to trickle over the line.

Gordon made a good save from Verbic before home skipper Bostjan Cesar was shown a straight red card following an assistant's flag, having appeared to continue a feud with Christophe Berra after the pair were both booked seconds earlier.

The visitors had one final chance when Berra headed on a long ball but Snodgrass just could not find enough power to loop his header over Oblak.
