TODAY The National Roadshow will be in Dalkeith with our ever popular columnist the Wee Ginger Dug, aka Paul Kavanagh, taking centre stage at an event being hosted by the Dalkeith and District SNP.
The event, at Dalkeith Masonic Lodge, 129 High Street, Dalkieth, EH22 1BE, runs from 7.30pm to 9.30pm and our editor Callum Baird will also be on hand to meet readers and to answer any questions about The National. It is free and open to all.
The Dalkeith and District SNP group said they were delighted to welcome Kavanagh and The National to Dalkeith as they are extremely proud of the former mining town.
The group’s Vivien Horn said: “Dalkeith and District SNP is delighted to welcome Paul Kavanagh and The National to Dalkeith and wish them both well for the rest of the road trip.”
“We seek to play our part in Scotland’s quest for independence. We are always looking for innovative ways of involving people in politics and increasing understanding and knowledge of the topical issues that are affecting our Country.”
Callum said he was very much looking forward to visiting Dalkeith and meeting the group, local activists and readers. Next stop is Dunfermline on June 15, then Thurso and Orkney at the end of the month.
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
Callum Baird, Editor of The National
