Joe Dodoo has claimed Rangers' emphatic 3-0 win over Aberdeen was no surprise.

And the bullish forward failed to miss his mark while blasting that the Ibrox club are BETTER than the team above them in the standings..

Dodoo netted the third strike of the game on Sunday as the Dons passed up a host of chances at Pittodrie to eventually be stung with a goal blitz in the final few minutes.

The Ibrox club are still nine points adrift of Derek McInnes' men who are sitting pretty in second place in the Premiership.

However, Rangers striker Dodoo reckons it's not a reflection on the quality of both sides.

He said: “We weren’t surprised we beat them because we are better than them no matter what anyone says.

“Sometimes we aren’t winning games but we do have more than them and if we exploit the right spaces, do the right things and make the right decisions, play as a team and continue to work hard we should be up there.

“I am happy because we got the three points and we hadn’t won for a while. It was obviously brilliant to come on and score but the most important thing was to get the points on the board."

Dodoo had only been on the park for 13 minutes when he netted the goal which put the icing on the Rangers cake. It was a strike the English forward has been waiting a long time for.

Sunday's 20-minute cameo was the former Bury man's third appearance in a Light Blue shirt and the first time he'd hit the back of the net since his brace against Partick Thistle back in November. It could have been even better for him as he cracked an effort off the bar late on in the dying seconds.

Given he only has five goals this campaign, Dodoo could have been doing with it going in. However, he remains positive that he can help contribute more as the season progresses.

He told Rangers TV: “I was very annoyed I didn’t get a second when I hit the bar and that one was a lot easier for me to finish, I think the pitch played its part because the ball just lifted slightly before I hit it.

“I was very disappointed it didn’t go in and I never like to be in the situation where I don’t score because I like to score every chance I get.

“You have to be calm, if you are composed then you can always finish your chances but mainly you have to practice out there at training and do it every day.

“If an opportunity comes you are more likely to take it, sometimes you have to read a situation and try and make the best decision from there.

“My finishing comes down to the work I do at training, it is something I have been doing for years and that doesn’t change whether I am playing or not.

“You always have to be ready and if you are always ready then you will always perform so I have to stick to my routine and continue to work hard.”
