THE first Scotswoman to climb Everest was yesterday named ambassador of outdoor charity Countryside Learning Scotland.

Adventurer Polly Murray scaled the famous peak in 2000 and her travels have also taken her to uninhabited Arctic islands, the Amazon jungle and Africa.

Now the Perth-based outdoor enthusiast will join Guy Grieve, scallop diver and owner of the Ethical Shellfish Company, as national ambassadors for the charity, which works to improve understanding of the countryside for health and wellbeing.

Murray said: “I have been raised to embrace the outdoor life and I am really pleased to be asked by Countryside Learning Scotland to help increase awareness of its work in giving young people hands-on learning, training and employment.”
