ABERDEEN University staff have threatened to go on strike if compulsory redundancies are used to shed 150 jobs.
The University and College Union says compulsory redundancies would be unjustified at a university with strong financial reserves, with some of the £10.5 million of planned savings earmarked to boost surpluses.
Staff backed plans for industrial action yesterday, with 73 per cent voting for strike action.
Andrew MacKillop, Aberdeen UCU representative, said: “Strike action is always a last resort but we can’t sit back and see jobs lost with the accompanying damage to the student experience and the reputation of the university.”
