“We are everything you ever wanted from a 1990s dream,” says the Facebook page of Glasgow fourpiece The Van Ts. “Dream” is the key word there.

New EP Coming Of Age channels neither the laddish swagger of late-period Britpop nor the tumultuous self-pity of grunge, but rather the early 1990s smoulder of bands such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Belly and Grangemouth legends Cocteau Twins, whose Simon Raymonde is a fan.

Released on Bloc+ Music, Blood Orange, the EP’s excellent lead track shows the band, based around twin sisters Hannah and Chloe Van Thompson, to have raised their game. Tethered to the rhythm section of Joanne Forbes (bass) and Shaun Hood (drums), the sisters’ surging guitars and duel vocals evokes the sensual tumult of My Bloody Valentine.
