THOSE arguing against the renewal of Trident have continually been told they are risking our security.

Supporters of the nuclear deterrent have insisted that the world is a dangerous place and that a unilateral decision to dump our nuclear weapons would make it more dangerous still.

But Nancy Soderberg, a fomer adviser to the Bill Clinton administration, blew that argument out the water when she appeared on British TV this week and admitted what many of us have long suspected: Trident is a mere symbol rather than an essential weapon.

That makes it a huge waste of money in times when families are feeling the pain of austerity.

And worse than that. As an expert warns in today’s National, Trident will always be at risk from cyber hackers.

The arguments in favour of keeping it are revealed as fraudulent.
