CHVRCHES lead singer and front-woman Lauren Mayberry has hit back at anonymous internet users who posted misogynistic abuse about her online.

The abuse came after the release of the video to their latest single Leave A Trace, in which Mayberry takes the lead role.

After the video went up online, users on Twitter and internet site 4chan attacked the Scottish singer.

Linking the thread on the 4chan site, Mayberry posted on Twitter: “Dear anyone who thinks misogyny isn’t real. It is and this is what it looks like.”

She went on to confirm that she had blocked several users from her twitter account, as the abuse directed at her continued.

Mayberry had previously spoken at length about the objectification of women, in the media and in everyday life, as well as online.

Due to this, some users branded her a hypocrite as she appears in the video wearing a short dress, but continued to direct sexual comments at her.

In an interview two years ago, the Chvrches singer said: “Is the casual objectification of women so commonplace that we should all just suck it up, roll over and accept defeat?

“I hope not. Objectification, whatever its form, is not something anyone should have to ‘just deal with’,” Mayberry added.
