Here's what you can get up to this week...

1 THIS week I’m banging the drums for the resurrection of the Ian Brown solo tour. It’s his first solo tour in over a decade and he’s heading to Auld Reekie this week. Ian is hitting the O2 academy on Tuesday and tickets are available at Live Nation costing 45 quid a pop. For more information go to and search for Ian Brown.

2 ALSO in the capital this week, Ewan MacFarlane, erstwhile frontman of both The Grim Northern Social and Apollo 440, has reinvented himself as a solo artist and his first album Milk is due to drop at the end of October. He’s gigging at the Voodoo Rooms this Thursday and in the Oran Mor on Friday. For more information and to book tickets head over to

3 IT’S the most wonderful time of the year… Nope, it’s not Santa coming.

It’s the Glasgow Cocktail week which runs from this weekend until Sunday October 2, and with 47 bars signed up to take part, it will feature Glasgow’s finest venues, delicious drinks, mixologists, DJs, a floral extravaganza and secret events popping up in all four corners of the city. I particularly fancy the look of the St Luke’s Taco and Tequila truck, but don’t take my word for it, head over to

4 THERE’S an exciting new eatery coming to Glasgow city centre this week, the sexy and stylish Bothwell House which has just revealed its new menu and imaginative cocktail list. The venue is a destination with a restaurant, bar and events space and blends Scottish, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine under the watchful eye of head chef Gary Duncan and his passionate team. The team are thinking global and where possible sourcing local. It’s where the Grill On The Corner used to be. Have a look and make bookings on the newly launched website at

5 IT’S Dundee’s turn for the Open Doors Weekend – aka the weekend nosy folk can poke about the private bits of public and heritage buildings to their heart’s content. From the V&A to Albert Square, Caird Hall to HMS Unicorn. Get logging on to and take yourself off for a swatch. Free!

6 RICHARD Marx is right there waiting for you, whatever you do, wherever you go, at The Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh, this Friday, September 30. Tickets are priced from £33 and available at, just search there for Richard Marx.

7 ABERDEEN! On your marks, get set, go! Scotland’s funniest son – the inimitable, the one and only Kevin Bridges, is at the P&J Live for a long overdue catch up. He’s doing four nights and tickets start at £76. Yup, its pricey, but so, so worth it. I saw him in Glasgow and it was phenomenal. How will he beat hoose rice? you need to be there to witness it. For tickets, log on to
