The National:

A TOP pop star was caught out in a political faux pas while announcing that her upcoming UK tour was to kick off in, er, Dublin.

Charli XCX made the announcement on Twitter on Friday evening in a post that has since, and rather wisely, been deleted.

She wrote: “UK TOUR STARTS TONIGHT IN DUBLIN AND WE’RE SOLD OUTTTT!!

"I’LL BE GOING ON AROUND 8.30ISH AND YEULE UNFORTUNATELY CANT BE HERE TONIGHT BUT WE’LL STILL BE RAVINGGGG SEE U TONIGHTTT!!!”

While the tweet’s punctuation and spelling left something to be desired, the most glaring inaccuracy was found in the Cambridge-born, Bishop's Stortford College-educated singer’s appreciation – or lack thereof – of historical geo-political tension.

For those somehow not in the know, Dublin has been the capital of an independent Ireland since 1922, following the bloody and brutal Irish War of Independence. It can be safely assumed that referring to Dublin as part of the UK would annoy our neighbours across the Irish Sea.

While the post has since been deleted, this is a cautionary tale to be careful of what you put on the internet, as the Jouker keeps receipts.
