Here are the picks of tonight's TV...

The One Show (BBC1, 7pm)
THE countdown until Friday’s Children In Need extravaganza truly gets under way tonight, with a little help from The One Show’s Surprise Squad – five inspirational young people who have all been supported by charity. Throughout this week, they’ll complete surprise challenges for BBC Children In Need-funded projects that are in need of assistance with something, whether it’s organising fundraising events or getting their hands dirty to create a secret garden.

Kate Humble: Good Life, Green Life (C5, 8pm)
LIVING a greener life isn’t just good for the planet, according to Kate Humble, it can also increase our own sense of wellbeing. The presenter has strived to keep sustainability at the heart of everything she does on her farm and in her home, and has found that rather than feeling like a chore or sacrifice it has actually brought her joy. Now, in this one-off special, she’s sharing some simple ways to save the planet, from making your own pond to putting a planter or barrel on a balcony. There are also tips on growing your own food and attracting bees.

Verdi’s Rigoletto – On the Lake (Sky Arts, 9pm)
PHILIPP Stolzl directs a production of Giuseppe Verdi’s timeless tragedy performed on the breathtaking water stage on the shore of Lake Constance, Bregenz. One of Verdi’s most popular works, Rigoletto is an unforgettable tale of a sacrifice and revenge; of a father’s rage and a daughter’s shame. It features several of opera’s best-known arias: Rigoletto’s passionate denouncement Cortigiani, vil razza dannata; Gilda’s dreamy Caro nome; and the Duke’s instantly recognisable La donna e mobile.

The Outlaws (BBC1, 11.20pm)
TOM is a big fan of his granddad, Frank – and who can blame him, when he’s played by Christopher Walken? However, Margaret is struggling to let her guard down, and we get a further insight into why as Frank reflects on his choices during a flashback to his mid-1980s prime. Meanwhile, Shanthi and Jerzy inadvertently create a new opportunity for the local drug boss when they punish Rani for her erratic behaviour, and Greg must go above and beyond for his new friends – whether he wants to or not.
