CRAFT brewer Innis & Gunn has teamed up with bestselling author Ian Rankin to create a limited edition bottle to celebrate the writer’s latest novel, In a House of Lies.

The partnership coincides with the book’s paperback release, with bottles of Innis & Gunn’s Original beer wrapped in an extract from the author’s highly-anticipated thriller.

Bottles of the Scottish brand’s limited edition-packaged Original will be available from the Innis & Gunn online shop from 9am today, with only 500 to go on sale.

Edinburgh-based Rankin drew similarities between writing and brewing. He said: “As a lover of beer and a fan of Innis & Gunn, I’m thrilled to be working with the them to celebrate the release of my new novel In a House of Lies.

“As a writer who has spent years working on my craft, it’s easy to relate to Innis & Gunn and the years of craft and work that have gone in to creating a beer such as The Original.

“I’m delighted to join forces with the team to create this limited edition take on their flagship beer.”

Dougal Sharp, Innis & Gunn founder and master brewer, said the collaboration brings together two “Scottish favourites”.

“We’re delighted to team up with Ian Rankin on such an exciting project,” he commented.

“The Original is our flagship beer and we’re delighted to showcase it in such an interesting and unique way.

“We’ve spent years refining our craft to produce the very best beers, just as Ian has done with his novels, so this partnership really is a great fit.

“The limited edition packaged bottles are a celebration of Ian’s latest thriller In a House of Lies but not only that, they mark two Scottish favourites coming together.”

Rankin is not the only famous author to endorse Innis & Gunn.

Trainspotting writer Irvine Welsh memorably tweeted to express his love of Innis & Gunn Lager. Unfortunately, however, he misspelled the brand’s name, writing ‘Innes’.

But the blunder has become an ongoing joke between the pair, with the brewers even creating a tongue-in-cheek billboard campaign.

A bottle of The Original and a copy of In a House of Lies can be purchased for £8.
