SCOTRAIL and basketballscotland have teamed up to promote rail safety in a scheme which will benefit more than 500 children.

Launched earlier this year, the partnership was launched to bring the ScotRail school safety programme, Act Safe Be Safe, to a wider audience.

The initiative, an educational programme with an emphasis on fun, involves pupils, teachers and parents in programmes which appoint rail safety ambassadors.

Through a range of events across the country which involve sports and physical activity, children are educated on the importance of safety around the railway network.

ScotRail sustainability and safety assurance director David Lister (pictured left) commented: “We are delighted to be working with basketballscotland to engage with children, and encourage them to have a positive interaction with the railway network in Scotland.

“Our services are more than just a way of getting from A to B – they are a way to engage and work with local communities, and this is another fantastic example of that.”

Head of operations at basketballscotland Colin Gregor added: “We are really excited to work with ScotRail to use the power of sport to deliver valuable rail safety information.

“Our team has worked hard to develop some fun games and challenges to test basketball skills and develop rail safety knowledge. We are looking forward to seeing the games and challenges in action.”
