ONE of The National’s most prolific expert contributors has been celebrating a twin accolade.

Professor Peter Strachan, an expert on energy policy, environmental management and energy transitions at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen has been named among the world’s top 100 influencers on the future of energy and is number two on a new Responsible Business #thinklist of worldwide business faculty members.

The #thinklist is a quarterly list of the 20 most influential faculty thinkers on issues of responsible business in social media, while Strachan joins names such as Mike Bloomberg, Bernie Sanders and Elon Musk on the Onalytica Future of Energy survey.

Strachan told The National: “It is strong endorsement for the applied and impactful clean energy research that we are encouraged to undertake in Scotland, that I have been recognised as one of the world’s top influencers and thinkers on the Future of Energy and Responsible Business.”

Onalytica compiled its list in an examination of the “three-fold” challenge facing the energy sector – to reduce carbon emissions to address the risk of climate change, ensure the world has access to affordable and reliable energy supplies and deal with the rise in global demand for energy which is expected to climb 25 per cent by 2040.

The company analysed more than 238,000 posts between last November and January 18 mentioning all the topics related to the future of energy. Accounts discussing the topics were identified and categorised before being a software program that created a list based on their future of energy posts over the last 12 months.

Strachan came in at number 98.

An email from Professor Andrew Crane, at the University of Bath, informed Strachan that he had been ranked on the #thinklist, a quarterly list of the 20 most influential faculty thinkers on issues of responsible business in social media.

It is compiled and managed by the Centre for Business, Organisations and Society (CBOS) at Bath, from a list of around 100 responsible business faculty members who are active on social media.

The list was then whittled down to the 20 key faculty thinkers.

CBOS said: “Our goal is to rethink the role and responsibilities of business in creating a sustainable society.

“As part of this mission, we have launched the #thinklist: a quarterly list of the 20 most influential faculty thinkers on issues of responsible business in social media. There are many different ways in which we identify key influencers in the field of responsible business scholarship.

“Citation reports and journal rankings tell us which researchers are shaping the field ... What is often overlooked is the digital life of these influencers: the clicks, the likes, the shares, the reposting. The online engagement of responsible business faculty plays a key role in helping get new thinking and robust scholarship out of the ivory towers and into the hands of the public.”
