THE Scottish Salmon Company (SSC) is set to make a big splash across the pond as it introduces a new premium export brand at this year’s Seafood Expo North America (SENA) in Boston.
Lochlander Salmon has been tailored for the North American market, where demand for quality, traceability and Scottish provenance continues to grow.
Specifically, the new brand has been developed with premium restaurateurs, up-market hotels and top quality chefs in mind.
SSC, which became the first salmon producer in Scotland to be awarded Best Aquaculture Practice certification for all its marine sites, is emphasising the new brand’s Scottish sea loch provenance as well as the company’s sustainable farming and excellence in animal care.
Ahead of the launch, SSC commissioned Ipsos Mori to conduct interviews with leading chefs in New York City who confirmed that quality, freshness and authenticity were of crucial importance when importing food.
The research also highlighted that chefs wanted to know more about how their food is farmed, to be proud of the food they serve and to have a brand name associated with Scottish quality.
The campaign is hoping to build on a record-breaking year for the Scottish salmon industry as a whole. Exports grew by 35 per cent to £600 million with sales to the US totalling £193m, followed by France (£188m) and China (£69m).
Since 2011, SSC’s exports have more than doubled and currently account for more than half of sales.
Craig Anderson, chief executive of SSC, said: “We are delighted to unveil our new premium export brand to the North American market at SENA Boston.
“We are passionate about our Scottish provenance and bringing the finest quality Scottish salmon to worldwide markets.
“We are extremely proud of Lochlander Salmon, which offers our export customers a premium quality Scottish salmon.
“It has been raised for approximately three years on a rich marine diet with zero GMOs, hormones, steroids or chemical colorants in the feed.”

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
