THE news that a site in the Highlands has been chosen for the UK's first ever spaceport has left a Tory MSP with egg on his face.

Almost exactly a year ago, The National brought you an exclusive story on a report which said that Scotland could be a world leader in the space sector.

It suggested that the Scottish economy could be boosted by being home to a national spaceport.

We made this our front-page story and, predictably, we were ridiculed by various Unionists.

One of those to take a swipe was Tory MSP for Glasgow Adam Tomkins, who tweeted that our story showed that "science fiction still dominates one half of Scottish politics".

It seems that for some of our elected representatives having future ambitions and building on our already thriving space industry is to be avoided.
