PAUL Hartley believes Craig Wighton is ready to fulfil his potential after the 19-year-old shone during Dundee’s 2-0 win over Motherwell.
The forward imposed himself from the start and provided assists for both goals, for Cammy Kerr in the 40th minute and Marcus Haber 10 minutes from time. Wighton was only denied a goal of his own by a good stop from Craig Samson.
The teenager’s skill was a joy to watch but his decision-making and timing of pass were equally impressive, none more so than when he cut the ball back for Haber to slot home his first goal for the club. Hartley has been looking for a way to replace the goals and guile of Kane Hemmings and Greg Stewart and he may have found it after linking Wighton up with recent signing Haber.
“I felt the two front players make a big difference for us,” Hartley said. “Big Haber took the ball in really well and we have changed where Craig is playing. He was excellent.
“I have had to be really patient with him. People were telling us when to play him and get him in the team but we have been patient. But it’s his time now, I think. He has all the ability in the world and just has to keep the standard he has set.”

Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
