KIRSTY Gilmour continued her good form yesterday, marching into the second round of the women’s singles at the Syed Modi International Grand Prix Gold event in Lucknow, India.

The Scot, who finished runner-up at the Malaysian Masters Grand Prix Gold on Sunday, sped to a 21-10, 21-10, victory over Sri Lankan qualifier Lekha Shehani.

Dominating both games, the only time she was behind was after the first point of the match, and she finished the contest with a six-point burst from 15-10 in the second game.

It took the 22-year-old Commonwealth silver medallist just 23 minutes to set up a second-round clash today with China’s He Bingjiao.

The world No 20 has never played the Chinese player, who is ranked 42 in the world. If she wins that contest, Gilmour will face Thailand’s Porntip Buranaprasertsuk or Russia’s Natalia Perminova in tomorrow’s quarter-finals.

Scotland’s other representative, Alistair Casey, did not have such a good day, going down in his first-round match to India’s Pratul Joshi, 21-12, 19-21, 21-14.
