ABERDEEN’S on-loan Liverpool goalkeeper Dan Ward was delighted the Dons ended their losing run ahead of their trip to Celtic on Saturday.

The north-east club, looking to avoid a fifth straight loss, took the lead against Motherwell through Adam Rooney’s first-half header, which was cancelled out by substitute Scott McDonald after 73 minutes.

Both sides had chances to take three points, but Aberdeen had Ward to thank for earning them a point after he pulled off a string of outstanding saves in injury-time, the best seeing him turn team-mate Ryan Jack’s miscued header round a post.

Ward said: “It was a crazy couple of minutes, but I think we should have had the game wrapped up before then. We had plenty of chances.

“The saves are all as valuable as each other as they keep the ball out the net. [Motherwell keeper] Connor [Ripley] had a good save at the other end just before, which I was giving him a clap for. It kept the momentum with Motherwell.

“We’ve stopped the rot going into a big game. We’ll put today to bed and then look at how we handle Celtic next week.

“In any team, you’re going to have periods where there are peaks and troughs through the season and I’d like to think we’ve caught the back end of that.”
