GLASGOW have confirmed the signing of New Zealand-born flanker Callum Gibbins as preparations continue for Dave Rennie’s summer arrival as head coach.
A Super Rugby winner with the Hurricanes, Gibbins will join up with the Warriors ahead of next season, subject to a visa and medical.
The 28-year-old has signed a three-year contract.
Gibbins, who joins fellow new arrivals Huw Jones and Oli Kebble, recruited from Stormers, has played 26 times in Super Rugby and has scored three tries.
The forward has already played under Rennie and his new assistant Jason O’Halloran after captaining Manawatu Turbos, scoring 19 tries in 60 appearances for the Mitre 10 Cup side.
Current Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said: “Callum is a hard-working player with real leadership attributes and he’s another exciting addition to the squad for next season.
“He is part of a winning environment at the Hurricanes and is a player Dave and Jason know well from coaching him at Manawatu.”
Why are you making commenting on The National only available to subscribers?
We know there are thousands of National readers who want to debate, argue and go back and forth in the comments section of our stories. We’ve got the most informed readers in Scotland, asking each other the big questions about the future of our country.
Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.
So that’s why we’ve decided to make the ability to comment only available to our paying subscribers. That way, all the trolls who post abuse on our website will have to pay if they want to join the debate – and risk a permanent ban from the account that they subscribe with.
The conversation will go back to what it should be about – people who care passionately about the issues, but disagree constructively on what we should do about them. Let’s get that debate started!
