KENNY Miller celebrated two goals on Saturday and hopes to also score a new contract at Rangers before the end of the season.

The veteran striker was asked to lead the line in the Ibrox side’s Scottish Cup victory over Motherwell on Saturday and scored a late brace to overturn the lead Louis Moult had given the visitors.

Miller is entering the final five months of his current deal and has urged manager Mark Warburton to continue to play him as the lead striker. The former Scotland international is convinced that is still his best role, and the position from which he hopes to convince the board to dish out a new deal.

“No 9 no doubt my favourite position,” said Miller, who has also been utilised out wide and in midfielder this season. “It’s the role I know the best, so it wouldn’t be a coincidence if that’s where you see the best of me.”

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has also had cause to ponder his best attacking options, with the Pittodrie club linked with Preston striker Stevie May.

McInnes refused to be drawn on such transfer speculation, but he did express optimism that he will hold on to attacker Niall McGinn beyond the current season. The Northern Irishman scored twice as Aberdeen thumped Stranraer 4-0 to reach the fifth round of the cup.

“Niall is very happy here,” said McInnes. “He has never indicated that he wants to leave.”

Hibernian, meanwhile, would very much like to find the exit to the Ladbrokes Championship this season and hope that an 8-1 cup win over Bonnyrigg Rose will help boost their title ambitions.

Manager Neil Lennon said: “It’s not an easy division to get out of. Our priority is the league.”
