MOST Scots believe the country will be independent by 2025, according to a new poll.

The Ipsos MORI survey found that 54 per cent of those questioned think it is likely that Scotland will become independent within 10 years, with 44 per cent thinking it unlikely. Two per cent said they did now know.

Elsewhere in the poll, most Scots think that, by 2025, Scotland will be a more equal society, more than half of our energy supplies will come from renewables, while around half think that there will be a cure for most cancers in the next 10 years.

However, on a more downbeat note most respondents also think that students born in Scotland will be paying tuition fees here.

Mark Diffley, Director at Ipsos MORI Scotland said: “This poll represents good news for ‘Yes’ supporters, with more than half of Scots believing independence is likely by 2025.

“Opinions may change if and when a second referendum is announced.”
