CHRISTINA McKelvie has held Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse in South Lanarkshire with 44 per cent of the vote in an all-woman constituency battle that saw the Tory candidate double her votes.

McKelvie polled 13,940 votes, Labour’s Margaret McCulloch 8,508, Margaret Mitchell, the Tory candidate 5,596 and LibDem Eileen Baxendale, 836.

The results showed a 5 per cent swing from Labour to the SNP and Labour’s share of the vote dropping by 10 per cent. The turnout was 50.3 per cent.

McKelvie has been the area’s MSP for the past eight years.
