THE Brexiteer reaction to yesterday’s High Court ruling was furious.

As the judges told the Government it was up to Parliament to take back control, Ukip’s interim leader Nigel Farage said voters had been betrayed by the legal system.

“We are heading for a half Brexit…. I’m becoming increasingly worried,” he told BBC 5 Live. “I see MPs from all parties saying, oh well, actually we should stay part of the single market, we should continue with our daily financial contributions.

“I think we could be at the beginning, with this ruling, of a process where there is deliberate, wilful attempt by our political class to betray 17.4 million voters.”

He also threatened to fully return to political life if Brexit was not fully delivered: “I’m not going to disappear. If come spring of 2019 we haven’t left the EU, then I would have to take up full-time campaigning again.”

Suzanne Evans, the UKIP MEP seeking to replace Farage as leader, called for the judges to be sacked.

“How dare these activist judges attempt to overturn our will? It’s a power grab & undermines democracy. Time we had the right to sack them,” she tweeted, adding: “The government must appeal. People power must win.”

Douglas Carswell MP said the ruling “highlights the gulf between the country and the elite.” Labour MP Jess Phillips replied: “Vote Leave said they wanted UK courts to take back control. So there it is.”
