SCOTTISH Tory leader Ruth Davidson has launched an attack on the “desperate” LibDems, saying that the party was “finished” in Scotland, and that Alistair Carmichael was likely to be the “last man standing” after the election.

And Davidson claimed her party “stands with Scotland” with policies supported by most voters.

Her attack came in Edinburgh after the Lib Dems said their candidates were the only challengers to take on the SNP in their 11 seats.

Davidson said: “I totally understand why they’re doing it, to try and salvage something from the wreckage.”

Rennie in vow on fairer society

SCOTTISH Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie was on the campaign trail in Kirkintilloch, where he said his party’s plan to balance the country’s books was the only one “with a heart as well as a brain”.

He said it was only because of the LibDems’ responsible plan that they could pledge a boost of £800 million to the NHS in Scotland.

Rennie said: “The Conservatives want to cut too much, taking us back to 1960’s levels of public spending. The SNP wants to borrow even more than Labour, recklessly putting at risk the decent funding of public services. Our plan to cut less than the Conservatives and borrow less than the SNP and Labour enables us to commit to building a stronger economy and a fairer society.”

‘Brave’ plea by Greens

THE Green Party has launched a national billboard campaign urging people to “vote big, vote brave”.

And the Scottish Greens said that yesterday’s manifesto launch by Labour failed to offer the bold ideas needed to deliver an economy for the people.

Co-convener Patrick Harvie said Green candidates were standing in the majority of Scotland’s 59 seats, buoyed by a membership surge to almost 9,000 – one in 10 of them ex-Labour.
