DESPITE a week in which he was exposed as one of the most shambolic, devious and incompetent politicians the country has ever known, David Davis is reportedly on the cusp of launching a bid to be the next Prime Minister.

Allies of the bluffing Brexit Secretary have been meeting with “younger Tory rising stars” in what’s been called the “dream ticket” plot to oust Theresa May.

According to a rival newspaper, a key ally of Davis reportedly said May had the “the smell of death around her” and that she’d be “gone by Christmas”. This ally has been meeting with new Tory MPs asking for their support.

The plot would see Davis as Prime Minister for a few years, standing down ahead of the 2022 General Election.

Rumours of the plot came as George Osborne, the former chancellor, launched a blistering attack on the Prime Minister, insisting she couldn’t limp on until 2022.

The ex-MP, who is now the editor of the London Evening Standard, said the Tory government was “losing economic credibility”.

“The essential question is going to be – is there going to be a change of leadership in this Parliament? The Conservative Party parliamentary party assumes there will be, the Prime Minister has said nothing about that,” he added. “I would make the observation that it is the consensus view of the Conservative parliamentary party that the leadership should change.”
