ARTICLE 50 was triggered today after Theresa May's letter annoucning the beginning the UK's exit from the European Union was handed to European Council president Donald Tusk.

Holding the letter aloft he announced: "We already miss you. Thank you and goodbye."

However twitter users in Scotland were quick to distance themselves from the letter, reflecting the countries 62% vote in favour of remaining in the EU.

Angela Haggerty, the editor of Common Space, tweeted:

The phrase that concluded the tweet, "that letter's no mine", was quickly picked up and turned into a hashtag that began trending across Scotland, and the UK, as people voiced their frustrations and anger at Brexit.

There was also plenty of confusion from folk who seemingly hadn't heard the Scots dialect before, and wondered why there was a typo in the word "not".
