KELPIES sculptor Andy Scott was yesterday awarded an honorary degree in recognition of his public artworks.

Glasgow Caledonian University made the award in celebration of Scott’s steel structures, which include the 30 metre high horse heads at Falkirk as well as pieces at Cumbernauld and Glasgow Harbour.

Scott, whose work also stands in Belfast and Sydney, was honoured alongside former footballer Pat Nevin, who was recognised for his broadcasting work, and Archbishop Mario Conti, the former archbishop of Glasgow.

Modelled on Clydesdale horses, the Kelpies are the largest works of art in Scotland and represent the industrial heritage of Falkirk and Grangemouth.
