INDEPENDENCE supporters are expected to flock to a rally next month less than two weeks before the Scottish Parliament election.
More than 100 people have signalled their intention to attend the event in George Square, Glasgow, on Saturday, April 23. More than 400 said they are interested in attending.
Details of the rally were published recently on Facebook with people invited to “Bring bagpipes. Bring drums. Bring flags. But more importantly, bring yourselves.”
The post added: “An informal, peaceful assembly to remind the Pro-Unionist parties and the Scottish Government that the Independence movement is still very much alive.
“Our First Minister has said repeatedly that Independence will be delivered by the people of Scotland when the time is right. Well I say the time is right and it’s up to us to make this happen.”
According to the timetable set out ahead of the historic 2014 poll, Scotland would have become autonomous on March 24, 2016, earmarked by Alex Salmond as his proposed “independence day”.
However, yesterday one independence supporter said the April 23 had been chosen as a day for the rally as it was a Saturday when people were off work – and closer to the Holyrood election on May 5 when the Unionist parties are expected to be trounced.
Pro-Union campaigners are expecting to hold events on March 24.
George Square became a focus for the Yes campaign with thousands turning out to support the fight for Scottish self-determination.
The day after the defeat hundreds of well-wishers descended on the square leaving bags of food to be delivered to food banks in a show of solidarity with those struggling against austerity and financial hardship.
