A TEAM of swimmers will set off today in a bid to reach St Kilda from Harris.

It is the nine swimmers’ second attempt to reach St Kilda after bad weather forced them to abandon their 60-mile waterborne relay last year after about 24 miles.

A second bid in May this year was postponed, again due to bad weather.

The team start out from Hushinish on Harris, from where it could take them up to three days to reach Village Bay in Hirta, in a fundraising effort to benefit The Leanne Fund, the Fishermen’s Mission, Yorkhill Children’s Charity and Aberlour Child Care Trust.

The swimmers will be supported by a cabin cruiser and three kayaks.
