ARMS factories are found across Scotland from Glasgow to the Isle of Lewis.

There are nine primary sites including shipyards, according to a list given to The National by the Ministry of Defence.

They are:

  • BAE Systems Govan and Scotstoun yards, Glasgow – Type 26 Frigates
  • Babcock Rosyth yard, Fife – Type 31 Frigates
  • Leonardo UK, Edinburgh – Electronic for RAF fast jets and air survivability avionics
  • Raytheon UK Glenrothes, Fife – Parts for munitions and complex weapons systems
  • Raytheon UK Livingston, West Lothian – High energy laser weapons centre/advanced laser integration facility
  • Thales UK, Govan, Glasgow – Optical equipment, weapon sights and instruments for Dreadnought submarines and the Army’s Boxer vehicle
  • Harland and Wolff Methil, Fife and Arnish, Isle of Lewis – Two smaller shipyards which will be involved in the manufacture of some parts of the MoD’s fleet solid support ships contract, which will see fabrication happen in these yards, before assembly in Belfast

According to the Ministry of Defence, the department’s direct expenditure supported 12,200 jobs in Scotland.
