A 21-YEAR-OLD worker at the Faslane nuclear base has been formally identified after a body was recovered from the River Clyde.

Josh Gayton had last been seen just after midnight on Tuesday April 16 on East Clyde Street and West Clyde Street in Helensburgh.

Gayton was reported missing after concerns were raised that he did not attend work at the Faslane Naval Base.

On Sunday, April 21, a body was recovered from the River Clyde off Helensburgh.

And on Tuesday, April 23, police confirmed it had been formally identified as the 21-year-old Gayton.

Chief Inspector Allan Dickson said: “Our thoughts remain with Josh’s family at what is a very difficult time for them and they have asked for privacy.

“We would like to thank everyone who responded to our appeal and to partner agencies who helped search for Josh after he was reported missing, including assistance from the Royal Navy, the Royal Marines, and Ministry of Defence Police.”
