A TEENAGER is in hospital after being knocked down by a bin lorry on a Greenock east end street this morning.
Emergency services rushed to Clynder Road at around 8.05am following a collision involving a council refuse vehicle and a 17-year-old boy.
The youngster was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital as police sealed off the street at its junction with Cardross Crescent.
The road remains closed.
Motorists are being advised to use an alternative route while the closure is in place.
The bin lorry was seen sitting within the police cordon following the incident.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.05am on Tuesday, April 16 police received a report of a road crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on Clynder Road, Greenock
"The pedestrian, a 17-year-old boy, was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by ambulance.
"The road is currently closed."
An Inverclyde Council spokesperson said: “We are aware that a council refuse vehicle was involved in an incident involving a pedestrian on Clynder Road in Greenock this morning.
“We are supporting our staff and assisting police with their enquiries.”
